The New Year has brought challenges for Los Angeles as devastating wildfires have deeply impacted our community. Many schools, churches, businesses, parks, and more have suffered losses, leaving countless people displaced and in need. Despite the hardships, the resilience and generosity of the Los Angeles community have been truly inspiring.
From evacuation shelters to resource centers offering essential supplies like food, water, and clothing, we’ve witnessed neighbors and organizations stepping up to support one another. The overwhelming outpouring of donations has been so significant that some organizations and companies have even paused accepting items due to the sheer volume of contributions.
Wildfires such as the Eaton Fire, Kenneth Fire, Hurst Fire, and Palisades Fire have caused widespread devastation, making it difficult to know where to focus relief efforts. However, many incredible nonprofit organizations and companies have mobilized to provide critical support. Early during the fires, Heal LA encouraged immediate donations to two organizations making a significant impact: the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation and the California Fire Foundation.
How Heal LA is Supporting
As Heal LA monitored the wildfire situation, our thoughts immediately turned to our community school, Loreto Street Elementary, which was dangerously close to the Eaton Fire. During the first week of the fires, all Los Angeles Unified School District schools were forced to end classes early, with students, teachers, and staff staying home for their safety due to the fire threat and poor air quality.
We soon learned that the teachers and staff at Loreto Street Elementary were profoundly affected by the Eaton Fire. Many of their homes were either destroyed or severely damaged, leaving them with little to return to. Beyond losing their homes, these dedicated educators are also grappling with the challenge of supporting their students while navigating their own personal hardships.

We have created a relief support page where donations will be accepted and your donation will directly assist these teachers and staff by providing critical resources such as temporary housing, essential supplies, and emotional support to help them rebuild their lives as a result of the wildfires and should it become necessary, also provide similar support for future disasters that affect the teachers and staff of Loreto Street Elementary.

Legal Support
In addition to our relief support page, we are proud to offer free legal support to the teachers and staff of Loreto Street Elementary. Our dedicated legal team is available to assist them in navigating the complex challenges they may face as a result of the wildfires.
This support includes guidance on filing insurance claims, understanding tenants’ or homeowners’ rights, and accessing disaster relief benefits. By providing this critical resource, we aim to ease some of the burdens these educators are facing and empower them with the knowledge and tools they need to rebuild their lives.
