Heal LA 2021 Recap: See What We’ve Accomplished
As Prince and I went into 2021, we wanted to make sure that we had programming for our youth and families at Loreto Street Elementary. Whether that meant virtually or in-person we were determined to have programming happen in 2021. We learned a lot from 2020 and as most nonprofit organizations stopped in-person programming and transitioned to virtual learning and programming, it was a moment for Prince and I to learn from other organizations to prepare us for 2021. As we enter 2021 with the world still dealing with COVID-19, it was time to actually “make that change” and it was an amazing year for us. Here is a full recap on everything that happened in 2021 for the Heal Los Angeles Foundation!
Virtual Cooking Class
In March, our Virtual Cooking Class was our first direct-service program where 25 students and families from Loreto Street Elementary were able to learn to cook healthy and simple meals. Families received a food box each week for 8 weeks which included: food items, proper ingredients, one page content of step by step of how to cook the meal of the week, one page passport to turn in, and a live Zoom session with a chef to show families how to cook the meals for each week.
Power Up Fitness Program Sponsored by Funkins
Our Power Up Fitness is our second direct service program and was a four-week series that took place at Montecito Heights Recreation Center. 30 students from Loreto Street Elementary were able to participate in the program, which was led by UCLA Health Sports Performance Powered by EXOS. Students were able to learn fun and interactive exercises that encourage them to develop a healthy lifestyle.
